What do animals, plants, fungi and machines have in common when they behave intelligently?

An interdisciplinary symposium in Berlin will examine whether intelligence across radically different biological and artificial systems shares common organisational principles.

The Cross-Kingdom Intelligence Symposium takes place on 22 October 2026 as part of the International Conference on the Simulation of Adaptive Behavior. Speakers include animal collective-behaviour researcher Jens Krause, plant-intelligence researcher Paco Calvo, fungal biologist Vera Meyer and artificial-intelligence researcher Ute Schmid. Roboticist Oliver Brock moderates the event. Presentations and an open discussion will compare sensing, information processing, adaptation and flexible behaviour across organisms and machines.
